HISTORY OF LOVE
History of Love is a scenic exploration that seeks to reconstruct the narratives of desire, myth and identity from the most remote past to the present day. Based on the premise that love has been rewritten and transformed over time, the piece delves into an emotional archaeology that questions the promises and expectations we have carried with us for centuries. Through a performer who interweaves her personal story with mythical and literary narratives, the piece explores how love has been constructed and represented in different historical and cultural contexts. From a cave to a trendy restaurant in Barcelona, passing through the myth of El Dorado, History of Love examines the multiple ways in which love has been experienced and represented throughout time. Using audiovisual resources and objects, the company creates a space filled with remains, the dumping ground of a universal myth, where inherited narratives about love are confronted with a contemporary voice that does not seek truths, but rather questions certainties. In this laboratory, amidst collective memories and debris, History of Love invites the spectator to reflect on the sentimental expectations of the past that we still carry around and to question what kind of promise of love we continue to seek. Based on questions such as: Why do we love? or Why do we love the way we do? History of Love acts as a mirror that reflects our own ideas, frustrations, and desires about love. And it reminds us that love is not a single, linear truth, but a complex and mutable territory, full of contradictions, rules, hierarchies, fashions, norms of power and open questions, in which each spectator can recognize their own experiences and construct new narratives through reflection.
